Should I amputate my newt's leg in order for it to regenerate?

My newt's leg was bitten today by my other much bigger newt. it is still attached to his body, however, it is limp and dislocated and not able to be used. I know that newts limbs are able to be regenerated, but i was wondering if i should have the other limb amputated. Thanks for your help!
