If someone is good with fixing computers, do you think they'd be able to fix a broken Ipod lcd & touch screen?

I dropped my 4th Generation Ipod Touch the other day, the screen cracked and the lcd got messed up and flashes white when pressure is applied. I do not have the money to take it to a repair place, but a family friend of mine is great with fixing computers, and he will do it for free if I order the parts. I can get the parts off of Amazon for $50. Should I trust him to fix it and not break my Ipod even more? He has never fixed an Ipod before. He will also be watching YouTube video's doing research on how to do the work. Please help. 10 points best answer.
